Worth knowing
Suzumar (Suzuki Marine); cover, cost and conditions
Suzumar is the inflatable boat line from Suzuki Marine and is usually sold as a package with a Suzuki outboard, boats between 2.4 and 3.6 metres that are used as a tender, fishing boat or family boat on inland waters. The package solution has a practical advantage for insurance: boat and engine share one invoice, and proof of value in the event of a claim is therefore undisputed. Keep it safe.
The premium is based on engine power and value, not on the make. Below 15 hp no licence is required, and from 3 hp upwards registration marking is compulsory. On inland lakes there are additional local rules that differ from one federal state to the next: Bavaria and Lake Constance have their own rules on propulsion and power that you should know before buying, and it is not the insurance that restricts anything here, but the shipping regulations.
As with all PVC boats, on a Suzumar the tube is the component with a limited service life. Ten to fifteen years are realistic, after which seams and glued joints deteriorate. This ageing is wear and cannot be insured. What is insured is everything that comes from outside: slashing, storm, vandalism, theft. On a boat in this price class, third-party liability is the actual product and hull insurance an option for the engine.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is the Suzuki engine included in the value of the boat?
Only if you state it. List the boat and the engine separately with value and engine number; if you bought a package, the single invoice is sufficient as proof.
May I go out on any inland lake?
Not everywhere. Bavaria and Lake Constance have their own regulations on propulsion and power. These local rules apply independently of the policy.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repairs are predictable. Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.
Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
