In Florida, Wellcraft builds console and fishing boats between 6 and 11 metres, and in the eighties it fielded fast offshore boats with the Scarab range which have cult status today. The current Fisherman and Coastal models are coastal fishing boats with outboards. Two generations, two insurance cases: the classic needs a survey and an agreed value, the modern boat a properly maintained equipment sum.
With the coastal fishing boats the engines are the block of value, often two or three outboards on the transom, together half the value of the boat. These engines are the most sought-after item for thieves on the water. Under full hull cover theft of an engine is covered, on condition that it is secured beyond the clamp screws. With several engines a fixed bolted mounting with a locking plate is worthwhile, not just a padlock.
