Working out provisions, person-days for water, gas and stores

Four people over seven days come to twenty-eight person-days. Everything else follows from that: drinking water, fresh water for washing as well, gas consumption and fridge space. On a long-distance cruise there is the further question of how long you have to manage without resupply.

For insurance purposes the stores themselves are not the issue, as food, drink and tobacco are expressly excluded from boat insurance, and so are cash and valuables. What counts is the equipment: fridge, watermaker, cooker, crockery.

With us, personal effects are covered at no extra premium up to three per cent of the sum insured, at least one thousand euros, up to three thousand euros in Basis-Plus and up to six thousand in Premium. There is no upper limit: higher sums can be agreed freely, but they then cost extra premium; beyond that you add cover for an additional premium. Valuable electronics belong in the sum insured, not in personal effects.
