Calculate your gas supply, how long a bottle lasts, inspection and fire safety
A burner uses about 160 grams of gas an hour. An 11-kilo bottle therefore lasts around 69 burner hours.
Calculator
Two hours of cooking a day will empty an eleven-kilo bottle in about five weeks. Factor in an oven or a heater and the bottle runs out faster still, and gas is not to be had in every harbour, certainly not always in the same type of bottle. A spare bottle is no luxury.
Gas installations on board have to be inspected every two years. The certificate is more than a formality: it is your proof that the installation was up to standard, should a fire ever break out. A fire caused by gas without a valid inspection will inevitably raise the question of your obligations under the policy.
Fire and explosion are covered under all our tariffs, including the Basis tariff. What the insurer is entitled to expect is a sound installation: fixed pipework, a shut-off valve, approved hoses. The certificate belongs with the papers you keep digitally on board, not in a drawer at home.
