Caravela Yachts is listed with 15 models spread across open sailing boats, motorboats, sailing yachts, RIBs and motor yachts. The range includes the Caravela 550 as Classic and Eco, the 650 as Classic and Cabin, the 520 and 810 sports models, the 950 sailing yacht, the 27 Day Sailer, the GP 33 and the 1150 and 1400 houseboats. Build years run since 1976, lengths from 5.3 to 14.5 m.
Houseboats are an insurance case of their own. They stay in the water permanently, are lived in and carry domestic equipment, from the galley to the heating. That brings other risks to the fore: escaping water, fire and storm at the berth. If the houseboat is rented out, that counts as commercial use and needs its own agreement.

How is a houseboat insured?
Differently from a cruising boat. Alongside hull and drive, what counts is the fixed fit out, the domestic equipment and the risks at the berth, that is fire, escaping water and storm. Tell us whether and how often it is moved.
I rent out my houseboat. What changes?
Renting is commercial use and needs its own agreement, not least because of liability towards the tenants. A pure leisure policy does not respond there.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
