Empress; cover, cost and conditions
Five sailing yacht ranges are listed for Empress: the 27, the 35, the 36 and the 51 from the years 1974 to 1981 as well as the Empress 41, which was built until 1982. Production lies far back, but the yachts can still be insured, regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners.
The third-party liability is the basis of every policy and, depending on the tariff level, ranges from a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros. Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium differ in the amount and in the scope of the hull cover. For a yacht that moors in foreign harbours, this sum is the first point in the policy.
In the full hull cover an agreed value is set, compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards. You receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How do Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium differ?
The limit of indemnity of the third-party liability ranges from 10 to 50 million euros. From Basis-Plus upwards club races are included, and in the Premium tariff the age limit of the full hull cover does not apply.
Can an Empress 51 from the 1970s be given full hull cover?
Yes. In the Premium tariff there is no age limit, the compensation follows the agreed value that was set, and there is no deduction for depreciation.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
