Grainger Designs; cover, cost and conditions
Grainger Designs appears in the NAMMERT records with 28 models, documented from model year 1987 up to the current years, almost exclusively sailing catamarans. The ranges run from the Alfresco 920 and Raider 300 via the Grainger 37, 430 and 480 up to the 20 m Grainger Charter 2000, joined by the current TR 42. Lengths sit between 8 and 20 m.
Multihulls need the correct boat type in the application and exact details on value, equipment and cruising area so the hull cover fits. For older build years from the late 1980s onwards an agreed fixed value pays off, fixing the agreed sum in a claim.
NAMMERT insures Grainger catamarans regardless of year of build and place of purchase. The premium for Grainger insurance can be calculated in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
