Worth knowing
Finngulf; cover, cost and conditions
For a cruising yacht it is the sail area that determines the premium, not the engine output. The Finnish models Finngulf 33 and 37 as well as 41 and 46 measure between 10 and 14 metres and were built from 1995 and from 2000 to 2015 respectively. Value, year of construction and cruising range are added as further factors.
Finngulf builds for the Baltic and the North Sea, so a coastal cruising range is the rule. You define it when you take out the policy. If your trip takes you beyond your own coastline, you receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages.
For yachts from this build period the agreed value applies: compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and races with ranking status are declared when you take out the policy.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is a 14 metre cruising yacht rated?
Through the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the policy can be taken out online; above that we examine each case individually.
Does the cover also apply in the Baltic and the North Sea?
Yes, we agree the cruising range in the contract. Yes. Cover also applies in winter storage and during craning, launching and transport.

Series by Finngulf, with value and cover
Finngulf 33 / 37 is a sailing yacht from Finngulf (Finland), built from 1995 to 2015, and today changes hands at between €75,000 and €190,000.
Finngulf 41 / 46 is a sailing yacht from Finngulf (Finland), built from 2000 to 2015, and today changes hands at between €180,000 and €420,000.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
