Abeking & Rasmussen in Lemwerder builds superyachts as one-off projects and at the same time has a history in classic yacht building that reaches back to the nineteen twenties; the yard restores its own boats from that period. This means that A&R involves two entirely different insurance situations: the new superyacht and the restored classic yacht.
For the classic yacht the agreed value based on an expert appraisal is the instrument, and with wooden hulls a surcharge applies from a sum insured of 20,000 euros. A restored A&R yacht from the nineteen thirties has a value that comes purely from originality and provenance; the logic of depreciated value leads nowhere here. For the new superyachts underwriting is handled case by case; the calculator goes up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros.

How do I insure a restored classic yacht?
