Worth knowing
Chantier Naval Structures; cover, cost and conditions
Chantier Naval Structures is the yard behind the Pogo yachts and is listed with 17 models, mostly sailing yachts. The range includes the Pogo 30, 36, 40 S4, 44 and 50, the Pogo 10.50 and 12.50, the small Pogo 3, the Pogo RC and the Pogo Foiler, plus the Pogo 32 Loxo motorboats. Build years run since 1992, lengths from 6.5 to 15.9 m.
Pogo stands for light, beamy yachts with plenty of sail area, built for fast downwind sailing and for shorthanded passages. That shapes the claim pattern: rig and fittings are highly loaded, and on fast passages collisions with floating debris are a real risk. Anyone taking part in races or transatlantic events must agree that expressly, otherwise cover is missing exactly there.
NAMMERT insures Pogo yachts regardless of build year and place of purchase, including boats bought directly in France. Before a long passage or an Atlantic crossing we extend the cruising area and review equipment and crew. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can a shorthanded Atlantic crossing on a Pogo be insured?
Yes, but not under the standard policy. Route, season, equipment and the skipper's experience are discussed in advance, and the cruising area is then extended. Without that agreement there is no cover en route.
Do I have to declare racing?
Yes. Racing loads rig and sails more heavily and is agreed separately. That applies to club races too. Tell us the setting in which you sail and it will be taken into account.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
