Allures builds blue water yachts between 12 and 16 metres in Cherbourg using a mixed construction: an aluminium hull with a GRP deck and superstructure, plus a lifting keel and a flat bottom for drying out. It is the combination of the robustness of aluminium and the comfort of a plastic deck.
In this mixed construction the joint between aluminium and plastic works, two materials with different thermal expansion. Leaks there are a familiar sign of ageing and wear, not an insured event. What is covered: grounding including consequential damage to the lifting keel, collision, storm, fire. And for aluminium hulls the usual applies: check the anodes every year, fit a galvanic isolator on the shore power connection, otherwise corrosion becomes an uncovered problem.
