Worth knowing
Multimodal; cover, cost and conditions
Two sailing yachts are listed, the Hunjacht M8 and the Vita 30, both built until 2005. Production lies in the past, and accordingly these yachts are traded second-hand today. NAMMERT insures them irrespective of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners.
With a used purchase what counts is the value stated in the policy. You record it as the agreed value when the policy is taken out; full hull cover pays compensation with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff without an age limit. For a dispute after the purchase there is the legal expenses cover for watersports.
Under sail the sail area takes the place of the engine power and enters into the premium together with the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and races with ranking status are to be stated when the policy is taken out.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What matters when taking over a used yacht?
A cleanly agreed value. The agreed value fixes it in the policy, and full hull cover pays compensation on this basis with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old").
Can I take out the policy directly online?
Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros the online conclusion is possible. If the value is above that, an examination of the individual case follows.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for sailing boats and sailing yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; for trips abroad carry the boat certificate or flag document.
Waters
Inland, coastal and abroad; plan fairways, bridge clearances, draught and tides.
Equipment
Lifesaving gear, fire extinguisher, anchor, signalling equipment and correct navigation lights.
Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended at any time.
Weather
Check wind force in Beaufort and wind direction before casting off, and allow for gusts.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
Series by Multimodal, build years and cover
Hunjacht M8 is a sailing yacht from Multimodal, built from 1997 to 2005.
Vita 30 is a sailing yacht from Multimodal, built from 1996 to 2005.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
