Worth knowing
Sterling Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Sterling Marine is represented in our portfolio by the Sabre 28 motor yacht from the years of construction 1979 to 1986. For the time ashore the cover remains in place: it applies in winter storage, during craning, during launching and while in transit, without your having to register it separately.
Damage in winter storage is already part of the limited hull cover, alongside fire, storm, lightning strike and theft of the whole boat. The full hull cover adds collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard, in each case on the basis of the agreed value.
More than three decades lie between the end of production and today, and accordingly the question of age counts. In the Premium tariff the full hull cover applies with no age limit, and compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"). The premium follows the type of boat, the value, the year of construction, the engine power and the cruising range.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does winter storage have to be reported separately?
Cover applies in winter storage, during craning, during launching and while in transit without any additional registration. Damage in winter storage is already included in the limited hull cover.
How is a boat from the 1980s compensated?
According to the agreed value, with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"). In the Premium tariff the full hull cover applies with no age limit, so the year of construction alone does not rule out cover.

Series by Sterling Marine, build years and cover
Sabre 28 is a motor yacht from Sterling Marine, built from 1979 to 1986.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
