Frauscher Bootswerft; cover, cost and conditions
Frauscher has been building motorboats between 6 and 11 metres on the Traunsee since 1927, design boats with a characteristic line, many of them fully electric. The yard was early with electric propulsion, and on Austrian lakes where combustion engines are banned Frauscher boats are correspondingly widespread. For the insurance, electric propulsion is the point that needs particular attention.
On an electric Frauscher the traction battery accounts for a considerable part of the boat's value, on some models a third. In many other sets of policy conditions it counts as a wear part and is excluded; with us it belongs to the insured propulsion system. It is important to reflect its value in the agreed value and to adjust it after a replacement. For Austrian owners we underwrite through our office in Salzburg, with insurance tax at the Austrian rate.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is the traction battery of an electric boat covered?
Yes, with us it belongs to the insured propulsion system and is not excluded as a wear part. Reflect its value in the agreed value, as it often accounts for a third of the boat's value.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
