Worth knowing
Najad; cover, cost and conditions
In Sweden, Najad builds blue-water yachts between 12 and 16 metres, centre-cockpit yachts with solid wood interiors and the build quality typical of Swedish yards. These are yachts for long-distance cruising, built for the North Sea, the Atlantic and beyond. For the insurance that means: the cruising range may be chosen generously, because the yacht is designed for it.
The solid wood interior is the block of value that makes water damage expensive. A burst fresh-water line or a leaking deck fitting above the berth hits veneered and solid surfaces whose restoration is joinery work. We cover such damage under full hull cover where it occurs suddenly, not where moisture penetrates slowly. Check the boat in winter, particularly when it lies under its cover.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can long-distance cruising across the Atlantic be insured?
Yes, with the worldwide cruising range. Discuss the passage with us beforehand; salvage cover and the deductible then need to be clarified individually.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
