How the place works
The gulf links the Red Sea with the Indian Ocean and is therefore unavoidable on the Suez route. It has counted as a high risk area for years, and international shipping runs here in monitored corridors and in convoy.
What breaks there
For yachts this is not about weather but about hijacking. Anyone taking this route mostly does so in company with other boats, or not at all: many crews ship the boat as deck cargo instead.
