AB Inflatables; cover, cost and conditions

AB Inflatables builds rigid inflatable boats and tenders. The range covers jet tenders, RIBs with a fibreglass hull, RIBs with an aluminium hull and professional workboats. A rigid inflatable is a hybrid: a solid hull that runs like a motorboat, with an inflatable tube around it that provides buoyancy and acts as a permanent fender. The Alumina boats are recognisable by the welded aluminium hull, the bright seam line along the rubbing strake and the wide flat inner floor.

Our model records list 102 AB Inflatables models, 98 of them rigid inflatables and four soft inflatables. Build years start in 2001 and run into current production. Sixty series are recorded, among them the Alumina ALX from 9.5 to 18 feet, the Jet models from 285 to 350 and further tender and console ranges. Lengths run from 2.4 to 8.5 metres, half the models between 3.4 and 4.9 metres.

An aluminium hull behaves differently from a fibreglass one. It takes a knock against a concrete quay or a coral head without cracking, but it dents, and a dent across a welded seam is a repair rather than a cosmetic matter. The tube is the other half of the boat: it ages through sunlight and abrasion rather than impact, so its condition is worth recording separately from the hull.

What is the difference between the Alumina and the Jet models?

For AB Inflatables: The Alumina boats have a welded aluminium hull and a console layout,

the Jet models are jet driven tenders.

Alumina sizes are given in feet, Jet sizes in centimetres.

What lengths does AB Inflatables cover?

For AB Inflatables: Recorded models run from 2.4 to 8.5 metres across 60 series,

with build years from 2001 onwards and half of the models between 3.4 and 4.9 metres.
