Worth knowing
Highfield Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Highfield builds RIBs with an aluminium hull instead of GRP, lighter, more robust against impact and to be treated differently in repair. The boats are widespread as yacht tenders and as work boats.
Aluminium brings a point of its own: corrosion through electrolysis when anodes are missing or the wrong metal combinations have been installed. That is wear and tear and no hull insurance covers it; documented anode changes are the effective remedy here. Otherwise the RIB logic applies: enter the outboard with its serial number, tender cover only in connection with the mother ship.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is corrosion on the aluminium hull covered?
No, not for Highfield either: corrosion is wear and tear.
Ingress of water after an incident, on the other hand, is covered;
documented anode changes help to draw the distinction.

Nautical information What counts before you cast off, papers, equipment, waters
Licence
Required inland and at sea from 15 hp (11.03 kW); below that, none.
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; carry the boat certificate on maritime shipping routes.
Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.
Equipment
Lifejackets, paddles, pump, repair kit, anchor gear and signalling equipment.
Cruising range
RIBs close to the coast; check air pressure before every trip and after temperature swings.
Weather
From Beaufort 4 the ride turns hard, and offshore wind sharply raises the risk of drifting.
General guidance, not a complete account;
what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and the manual of your Highfield.
Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.

As the Classic 290 / 380, Ocean Master 440 / 540,
Sport 460 / 660 by Highfield and 5 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Classic 290 / 380, Ocean Master 440 / 540,
Sport 460 / 660 by Highfield and further series: On an inflatable the cause decides,
not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
