Aicon S.p.A.; cover, cost and conditions

Aicon did not start out as a boatyard. Lino Siclari founded the business in Milan in 1993 as a maker of marine furniture, and in 1996 it moved to Giammoro in the province of Messina on the north coast of Sicily. Yacht building followed in 1999, and in 2001 the yard showed its first Aicon 56 at the Genoa boat show. In 2005 the Aicon 72 took the yard into large open yachts. The yard closed in 2012 in the wake of the financial crisis, and American investors bought the name in 2018. The model names explain the layout: fly marks a flybridge with an upper helm, open marks the version without one.

Our model records list ten Aicon designs, all motor yachts between 15.8 and 26 metres. Six are flybridge yachts: the Aicon 54, 56, 58, 64, 75 and 85, each with the fly suffix. Three are open yachts, the Aicon 62, 72 and 82. The Aicon 50 completes the list; at 15.8 metres it is the smallest model and, built from 1998 to 2006, one of the earliest entries. At the top end stand the Aicon 82 open at 25.65 metres and the Aicon 85 fly at 26 metres. Build years run from 1998 to 2016, and no line reaches into the most recent years. Seven of the ten designs measure more than 17 metres.

Every Aicon on the market today is second hand, the youngest about ten years old. With the original yard closed, parts and documents come from owners, specialist yards and equipment suppliers rather than from the builder, so a complete file of manuals and drawings adds real value. Have the twin diesels surveyed with oil analysis and a sea trial at full load. On flybridge models, check the upper deck for cracks around the console and the mounts of any hardtop, and look at teak decks for loose plugs and worn seams. Stabilisers, generators and air conditioning are expensive to put right and should all be run during the inspection. A survey out of the water is normal practice for yachts of this size.
