Alexander Marine builds motor yachts under the name Ocean Alexander. Alex Chueh founded the company in 1977 at Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan; building takes place in Taiwan today, with a site in Florida for fitting out and for looking after American owners. Construction is in fibreglass and in series rather than one off. You recognise the newer yachts by the unbroken, very high topsides with their narrow horizontal window bands and by the upper deck carried well aft, open or enclosed on the Revolution models.

Our model records list 79 Alexander Marine models, all recorded as motor yachts. Build years start in 1979 and run into current production. Sixty series are recorded: the Revolution 26 and 28 in open and enclosed form, the Legend 32 and 36, the 27 Explorer, the 45 Divergence including the Coupe, and the numbered ranges from the 70 to the 135. From earlier years come the Altus 42 and 48 and the Chiara 166. Lengths run from 12 to 47.2 metres, half the models between 15.1 and 27.5 metres.

At this size the hull is only part of what is on board. Machinery, generators, air conditioning, tenders and navigation systems all carry value of their own and none of it shows in a length figure, which is why an inventory is worth keeping up to date. Yachts of this kind also cross oceans under their own power, a different working life from a boat that stays in one bay, and one that leaves its record in the logbook.
