Apreamare builds motor yachts on the Gulf of Naples. The yard lies at Torre Annunziata with direct access to the water; the present works were built from 2002 onwards. The roots of the house reach back to Sorrento, where Giovanni Aprea began building boats in 1849. The model has always been the gozzo sorrentino, the timber fishing boat of the peninsula with its rounded stern and soft drawn lines. After the Second World War the family fitted car engines into these boats and a leisure craft came out of it. You recognise the yachts by the tall curved stem, the round transom and the unbroken soft sheer.
Our model records list 64 Apreamare models, 55 of them motor yachts and nine motorboats. Build years start in 1990 and run into current production. Sixty series are recorded: the gozzo models 28, 32 and 38 each as C with a cabin and as open, plus 35, 44, 48 and 64 also as fly, the Maestro trawler line with 56, 66 and 82, and the Smeraldo 45. From the early years come the models named in metres, the Apreamare 7 and 7.5 as Aperto and Cabinato. Lengths run from 7 to 24.2 metres, half the models between 8.6 and 13.9 metres.
One thing is worth understanding about this shape. A gozzo is a displacement or semi displacement hull with round sections, not a planing hull with a hard chine. It runs slower, lies quieter and meets a sea differently, which is what makes it the Mediterranean day boat for a long summer: many hours running, much sun on the deck and a great deal of manoeuvring in harbour.
