Blueprint Marine B.V.; cover, cost and conditions
BluePrint Marine is a Dutch yard that builds motor yachts under the Guardian name. For the second version of the Guardian 50, the Mk II, the naval architecture came from Van Oossanen & Associates and the styling from René van der Velden. The hull is built in vacuum bagged epoxy composite, the boat carries Lloyd's certification and is rated CE category A for open sea. The Mk II reaches up to 30 knots and gained a much larger flybridge than the first version; launches in Holland were planned from 2009. Guardian yachts are recognisable by a plain, timeless, no-nonsense profile.
Our model records list three designs, all entered as motor yachts. The Guardian 50 measures 14.95 metres, the Guardian 65 19.5 metres and the Guardian 72 22.2 metres. All three start in 2002. The 65 and 72 are listed until 2012 and the 50 until 2013, and none of them reaches into the most recent build years. The whole range therefore sits between 15 and just over 22 metres, the territory of large passage making yachts meant for longer trips beyond sheltered waters. The number in each name gives the approximate length in feet.
Epoxy composite hulls are strong and light, but repairs call for a yard that knows the material, so it is worth asking who has worked on the boat before. On a used Guardian the electrical system deserves particular attention, since a central control system with touch screens depends on software, sensors and wiring that age in their own way. Engine hours, service records for the main engines and generator, and the state of stabilisers and thrusters say a lot about the life the yacht has led. A sea trial at cruising speed and at full power shows whether everything still works together.
