The Brauer boatyard is based in Bützfleth, a district of Stade on the lower Elbe, and trades as Bootswerft-Brauer-Bützfleth GmbH & Co. KG. It built mainly motor yachts, many of them simply named after the village. Examples on the used market include the Brauer-Bützfleth 41 AK Fly of 1981, a GRP yacht of 12.86 metres with a flybridge, twin engines and a bow thruster, the Bützfleth 57 of 1980 at 16.65 metres and the Bützfleth 48.5 of 1993 with a teak deck. The easiest way to recognise one is the name itself: where Bützfleth appears in the papers, the yacht comes from this yard on the Elbe.

Ask for the engine history of both units, check the engine beds and fuel tanks, and look at the wiring, which on yachts of this age has often been extended piece by piece. Wooden interiors and teak decks age well when cared for, but loose plugs and grey seams show where work is due. On tidal water like the Elbe, a survey out of the water is the only way to judge the bottom and the running gear. The little Arbeitsboot 570 is a different matter: a simple, sturdy boat where hull condition and outboard or engine age decide almost everything.
