Buddy Davis Edition; cover, cost and conditions

The Buddy Davis name stands for Carolina style sportfishing boats. Buddy Davis was a charter captain and boatbuilder from the Wanchese and Manteo area of North Carolina. He founded Davis Boat Works in 1973 and Davis Yachts in the mid 1980s, built boats from 28 to 78 feet and died in 2011. Our sources do not confirm who builds the Buddy Davis Edition models, which our records list from 2007. Carolina style boats are recognised by a sharp entry and a dramatic bow flare that throws spray aside, and the larger Sportfisherman models add a raised helm and an open cockpit for fighting fish.

Our model records list eleven designs: five motorboats and six motor yachts, in three types. Centre consoles come at 28, 34 and 42 feet, Express models at 34, 38, 48, 52 and 58 feet, and Sportfisherman models at 52, 58 and 70 feet; the number in each name is the length in feet. Sizes run from the 8.53 metre 28' CC to the 21.34 metre 70 Sportfisherman. Seven lines start in 2007, the 52 and 58 Sportfisherman follow in 2009, the 58 Express in 2012 and the 42' CC in 2014. The 34' and 38' Express end in 2017, and the other nine reach the latest build years.

These are boats for offshore fishing days, run hard to the canyons and back. Salt and speed wear on everything: outriggers, rod holders, pumps and electronics need rinsing and checking after every trip. The centre consoles often carry outboards that should be flushed with fresh water and serviced on schedule. The bigger Express and Sportfisherman yachts live in a marina berth close to the fishing grounds and come out once a year for bottom paint and running gear.
