Concept Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Concept Marine was based in Istanbul. Founded in Turkey in 2004, the company built displacement motor yachts in glassfibre, intended for long passages rather than quick outings. With designs of more than 30 metres it was also active in the superyacht market. Alongside its own boats, Concept Marine sold yachts from other builders and second-hand vessels. The company has since ceased trading, but its yachts are still at sea. A displacement hull is shaped for range and a steady motion at cruising speed instead of planing, which is exactly what long passages ask for.
Our model records list four designs, all motor yachts and all starting in 2005. The Lobster 52, at 15.85 metres, is the smallest; its name refers to the style of the American lobster boat. The Concept 62 measures 18.9 metres and is recorded until 2009. Above them sit two vessels of another order: the Concept 36 M at 36.2 metres and the Concept 42 M at 42 metres, where the number gives the length in metres. The Lobster 52, 36 M and 42 M run until 2012. None of the lines reaches recent build years, so the whole range spans about seven years of building.
A large displacement yacht from a yard that no longer exists needs owners who plan ahead. Drawings, equipment lists and maintenance records are worth gathering, because the builder cannot supply them any more. On a used Concept, look closely at the glassfibre structure around stabilisers, shaft brackets and hull openings, at engine room ventilation and at the state of generators and watermakers. Such yachts often spend long periods at anchor or in charter service, so a full survey with a sea trial gives the clearest picture before buying.
