Corvette Marine Limited; cover, cost and conditions
The Corvette is an English family cruiser dressed as a trawler. Naval architect Terry Compton of Compton-McGill drew the hull, and Corvette Marine began building the boat in Lymington in 1974. Over the following decades the name moved between companies and towns: production went to Nottingham and later to Reedham in Norfolk, and after a voluntary liquidation in 2008 production moved to Taiwan in 2009. A Corvette is easy to pick out by its raised aft deck, its walkaround side decks and its flybridge. Below there is a forward and an aft cabin, each with its own shower and toilet. The semi-planing hull is reported to pass 20 knots, and twin engines were the standard fit.
Our model records hold one design for Corvette Marine Limited, the Corvette 32 motor yacht. It is listed for build years 1983 to 1995 and measures 9.95 metres, which matches the nominal 32 feet in its name. That span matches the years when the original design was still being built in England, before the revised Corvette 320 took over. The line does not reach into recent build years in our records, so every Corvette 32 on the water today is a used boat with more than thirty seasons behind it.
Twin engines are the heart of the Corvette, and on a boat of this age they deserve the closest look. A buyer should ask for running hours, service records and an oil analysis for each engine, and check shafts, cutless bearings and engine mounts. The raised aft deck and flybridge carry windows, rails and hatches whose seals age with the sun. Many of these boats live on English rivers and estuaries, some cross the Channel each summer, and the semi-planing hull rewards an owner who keeps the bottom clean and the engines balanced. A survey with a lift-out is money well spent.
