Da Vinci Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Da Vinci Yachts is based in Heeg, a watersports village in Friesland. Stephen Boersma founded the yard in 2001 with a simple aim: the right boat for a weekend afloat. The first design, the Da Vinci 29, made its debut at the HISWA show in Amsterdam in 2002. Since then the yard has built motor yachts with a classic touch, open cruisers, boats with gozzo and lobster lines and a rounded stern, and runabouts with a hardtop. Today the range is split into a Classic line and the faster S line. The boats are drawn together with the naval architects Vripack, the hulls are moulded in GRP and each yacht is finished to its owner's wishes within a semi-custom frame.
Our model records list two Da Vinci motor yachts. The Da Vinci 30 measures 8.9 metres and is listed with build years from 2007 to 2013. The Da Vinci 35E reaches 10.5 metres and runs from 2010 to 2020, so between 2010 and 2013 both were in build side by side. For the 35E the builder's data give a draught of 0.8 metres, a top speed of around 30 knots and CE category C, meant for coastal waters, rivers and canals. Neither design reaches the most recent build years in our records, and other lines of the yard such as the 29, the 32S or the 44 are not in our model data.
A Da Vinci is at home on the Frisian lakes, on rivers and canals and along the coast. Shallow lakes mean the hull and running gear should be checked after every lift out, especially the propellers and the leading edge of the keel. Varnished wood and teak trim want regular care if the boat lives outside. On a used 35E, ask about engine hours and service history, look at the canopy and its fastenings, and check that the fendering and rubbing strake have not taken too many knocks in locks. The low draught is a gift on inland water but asks for respect when the wind kicks up a short chop.
