Behind the Dolman name stands Jachtwerf IJsselmeer, the yard of the Dolman brothers in Muiden, just east of Amsterdam. Its most familiar boat is the Vlet 970, drawn by Theo Gillissen: a round-bilged motor cruiser with a steel hull, a steel superstructure, a teak deck and hydraulic wheel steering. Twin bilge keels let the hull sit upright when it takes the ground. In Dutch a vlet was originally a small, flat working craft, and the yard's motor vlets were meant for canals, rivers and sheltered coastal water. On the brokerage market they turn up with an aft cabin or an open cockpit, often marked AK and OK. Surviving Vlet 970s date from the late sixties and early seventies, and the example on the yard's own page was built in 1975. The Vlet 970 is easy to spot by its round-bilged steel hull, the bilge keels and the wood on deck.
