Dominator Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Dominator Yachts builds large motor yachts in Fano on Italy's Adriatic coast. The yard was founded in 1999 and started production in 2000. It works in small series and one-offs, and its Ilumen line forms a design family of its own. The Ilumen 28 was laminated in carbon fibre, with exterior and interior styling by Alberto Mancini of Trieste and hull lines from the yard's own development team. Model names follow three patterns: two digit numbers in feet, three digit numbers, and metre figures with an M.
Our records list 14 Dominator models, all motor yachts. The two digit types 62, 64, 68, 78 and 86 measure 19.6 to 27.2 metres and appear from 2000, the Dominator 68 being the earliest. The three digit 640, 680, 720 and 800 follow from 2007 at 19.75 to 24 metres. The Ilumen line is represented by the 26.5 metre D26 Ilumen and the 27.35 metre Ilumen 28 M, the metre models by the 29M, the 38 M and the 40M, the longest at 40 metres. The Ilumen 28 M and 38 M reach the most recent build years.
Yachts of twenty to forty metres need a deep water berth, often stern to in a Mediterranean marina, and most are run with a professional crew. Carbon and composite structures want an eye on fittings and through hull points, and the engine rooms reward a strict service log. Owners typically use them for coastal cruising between harbours and anchorages, with a tender aboard for trips ashore.
