Storage in a shed costs roughly 45 to 90 euros per metre, in the open 20 to 45, staying afloat 12 to 30, plus craning and winterising.

The ranges are wide and differ from region to region; in the south and on popular waters, expect the upper end. On top of the storage fee come craning, cradles and winterising. Staying afloat saves all that, but you run the risk of ice pressure and heavier fouling, and you need the harbour's consent.
In insurance terms, winter storage is not a break in cover. With us your normal hull cover continues through winter storage, time at the yard, craning and slipping, including under the seasonal policy, where you pay a premium only for the cruising season. Fire in the shed, storm damage in the open, theft from the yard: all of them are insured events.
What is expected of you is reasonable care. A boat standing in the open without proper support, or with a boat cover flapping loose, is asking for trouble. Snow load on a winter cover that has not been cleared is the classic case, and that is where the line into gross negligence is quickly crossed.
