With a trailer and boat weighing one and a half tonnes, a ramp with a gradient of twelve per cent calls for around a hundred and eighty kilograms of pulling force, and on wet, algae-covered concrete that is more than a front-wheel-drive car can manage. On top of that, the driven wheels end up in the water once the trailer is far enough in.
The most common things that go wrong when slipping: wheels spinning, the loaded trailer sliding back down the ramp, a boat that comes off the rollers too early. All three can be avoided with wheel chocks and a second person.
