How the place works
Between Moskenesøya and Værøy runs one of the strongest tidal streams in the world, and with wind against tide whirlpools and standing waves form over a short distance. The passage only makes sense around slack water, and the weather here can turn completely within an hour.
What breaks there
Loss of steering and capsize are real possibilities, and help is far away: anyone in trouble here waits for rescue from a long distance. The nearest yard is days away too.
