How the place works
The largest lake in northwestern Germany averages only a good metre and a half in depth, less in many places. Wind builds a short sea quickly over that surface, and because there is bottom everywhere it stands up steep at once.
What breaks there
Grounding with centreboard or rudder, touching bottom while tacking, and dinghies capsizing in the short sea. Motorboats ingest silt and block their cooling circuits.
What this means for your policy
In a shallow area it is worth checking whether grounding and engine damage from ingested material are included. A cooling circuit full of silt is a classic dispute between damage and wear.
