How the place works
From November to April the cyclone season crosses Fiji, Tonga and the Cook Islands, and the boats of circumnavigators then face a choice: run for New Zealand or stay in one of the few harbours considered safe. The route to New Zealand leads through the zone of the lows.
What breaks there
In season it is the cyclone; out of season it is reefs and anchorages with coral bottom where the chain snags. Both happen far from any yard.
What this means for your policy
Almost every policy has a blackout period for the South Pacific season, or a requirement to bring the boat to New Zealand or Australia by a fixed date. Settle the date and the accepted berth before you sail into the season.
