The Börjesson brothers ran their yard in Bjästa, south of Örnsköldsvik on the northern Swedish coast of the Gulf of Bothnia. Under the Örnvik name they built motorboats and sailing yachts, and the company also produced boats under the Omega and Maxi names as well as the Scanmar line of sailing yachts. The Börjessons bought Scanmar from Nils-Erik Olofsson in 1986 and then sold the yachts as Yachts of Scandinavia. The company ceased trading in 1991. A boat from Bjästa today is therefore a piece of a closed chapter in Swedish boatbuilding, carried on mostly through the model names.
Our model records list two designs under the yard's name: one motorboat and one sailing yacht. The older is the Örnvik 570 DC, a motorboat of 5.5 metres listed with build years 1967 to 1976. The Elvström Örnvik MS 31 sailing yacht measures 9.63 metres and appears from 1974 to 1987. Between 1974 and 1976 the two lines were therefore built side by side. Neither reaches the most recent build years, and the recorded boats are now between nearly forty and almost sixty years old. The span from 5.5 to almost ten metres shows a yard that built everything from a small family runabout to a cruising yacht.

On a 570 DC, look at the transom and the engine mounting, where decades of outboard or sterndrive loads leave their mark, and check the wiring, which is often a patchwork of several owners. On the MS 31, the keel bolts, chainplates and the original windows deserve a close look, and standing rigging of unknown age should be renewed. Northern Swedish boats usually spend long winters ashore, which is gentle on the hull but means short seasons and sometimes low engine hours with old fuel systems. A survey before purchase is money well spent on either boat.
