Abbott Boats grew out of Abbott Boat Works in Sarnia, Ontario, founded by Bill Abbott Sr. together with his father. Abbott was a racing sailor himself and was named to Canada's Olympic sailing team. The yard began with wooden powerboats and later turned mainly to sail, building one design classes such as the Dragon, Folkboat, Soling, Finn, Wayfarer and Banshee alongside its own Abbott 22, 27, 28, 33 and 36.
