Aira Boats is based in Sneek, in the Dutch province of Friesland. Jos Snijders Blok, a former headmaster who wanted a small yard of his own, founded the company in 2015, and the yard in Sneek opened early in 2018. Together with the designer Simonis Voogd he drew the Aira 22 in 2017, meant for sailing schools and just as much for families. The boat made her debut at boot Düsseldorf in 2018. Since then the British firm RS Sailing has taken over building, distribution and marketing. She is easy to spot: a roomy cockpit with cushioned, shaped seats and backrests, a bulb keel and an electric motor that retracts in seven seconds.
