Aire Inc; cover, cost and conditions
AIRE makes inflatable boats in Meridian, Idaho. A handful of whitewater paddlers set the company up in 1989, and the name is short for Argonaut Inflatable Research and Engineering. It started out in Garden City before moving to bigger premises in Meridian, and today it is owned by its employees. The range takes in rafts, catarafts and inflatable kayaks for river running. The rafts carry a three digit number and a letter code. The number is the length in feet and inches, so a 126 is 12 feet 6 inches and a 156 is 15 feet 6 inches, while D, E, R and DD mark different versions of the same length.
Our model records list 15 AIRE rafts, all inflatables without an engine, and every line starts in 2018 and runs to the latest model years. Five are R versions (130, 143, 156, 176 and 183), four are DD (126, 136, 146 and 160), three D and three E (each in 130, 143 and 156). Lengths range from the 3.83 metre 126 DD to the 5.64 metre 183 R. Eight models stay under 4.40 metres, five fall between 4.42 and 4.90 metres, and only the 176 R and 183 R are longer.
An AIRE raft rolls up and travels in a car boot or on a small trailer to the put-in. Rinse it after every trip, dry it fully before storage and keep it out of direct sun when it is not in use. Rocks are part of the job on a river, so a quick look at the floor and the tubes after each run is a good habit.
