Anne Wever B.V.; cover, cost and conditions

The Trintella yachts come from the yard Anne Wever founded in the Netherlands in 1953 as Jachtwerf Anne Wever. Working with the designer Van de Stadt, he first built the Trintel, cruisers with steel hulls. The yard moved to glassfibre early: in 1964 an 8.5 metre yacht drawn by Van de Stadt was launched, and with it the Trintella name was born. From the late sixties to the mid seventies the Trintella IIIa, IV and V took on a centre cockpit, and in 1976 the Trintella 38 arrived with a near flush deck and a more modern hull. Anne Wever retired in 1988 and sold the yard, which then traded as Trintella Shipyards, and in 2003 production moved to Hamble in England.

Our model records list 30 designs, 27 sailing yachts and three motor yachts. The oldest entries, the Trintella I and the Trintel IIB, start in 1960. Eight designs carry Roman numerals, from the Trintel IA to the Trintella V, next to numbered lines such as the Trintella 38, 42, 44 and 53 and the yachts with the A suffix, from the 40 A to the 81 A(D). The motor yachts 1525 MY, 1725 MY and 1925 MY are recorded from 1986 to 1996. The Trintella 49 A runs the longest, up to 2003, and none of the lines reaches the most recent build years. Twenty seven designs measure ten metres or more, 13 at least 15 metres and five over 20 metres. The smallest is the Trintella I at 8.8 metres, the largest the Trintella 81 A(D) at 24.8 metres.

A Trintella is usually bought as a long-term companion, and its age calls for a thorough look. Early glassfibre hulls from the sixties should be checked for osmosis and for the state of the hull to deck joint, while the steel Trintels need a careful search for rust and thickness readings of the plating. Where a teak deck is fitted, its age matters, because replacing one on a large A model is a serious project. Standing rigging, chainplates and keel bolts deserve attention on any yacht of thirty years or more. On the larger centre cockpit models, tankage, heating and the condition of the engine room tell a buyer a great deal.

What this means for the cover

For the Trintella 49 A and Trintella 59 A by Anne Wever B.V.

series the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.

An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

For the Trintella 57 A, Trintella 75 A, Trintella 44 A by Anne Wever B.V.

and 24 more series there is no list price left.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.

For the Trintella 49 A, Trintella 59 A, Trintella 57 A by Anne Wever B.V.

and further series: On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:

a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,

and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.

For the Trintella 1525 MY, Trintella 1725 MY, Trintella 1925 MY by Anne Wever B.V.

series: On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.

Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
