Apex Inflatables; cover, cost and conditions

Inflatable boats and tenders ran under the Apex name from Costa Rica; building took place in an industrial park near Alajuela north of the capital. The boats come from the same house that builds today under another name; the Apex name was not carried on. The range is ordered by use: Tender for the boat carried aboard a yacht, Open for the open console boat and Sport for the larger faster models, which came with inboard as well as outboard power. You recognise them by the substantial tubes carried well aft and the very clean seam work.

Our model records list 38 Apex models, all of them soft inflatables. Recorded build years run from 2005 to 2013, so production under this name is closed. Thirty eight series are recorded: the Tenders A-11, A-12, A-13, A-15, A-18 and A-20; the Open A-15, A-17 and A-20; and the Sport models A-24, A-28, A-33 and A-36, each in the I/B inboard and O/B outboard versions. The number gives the length in feet, so an A-15 measures around 4.6 metres. Lengths run from 2.4 to 11 metres, half the models between 2.7 and 6 metres.

An eleven metre inflatable and a two and a half metre tender share a name here and almost nothing else. What they do share is the tube, and on any inflatable that is the part which decides the value: it ages through sunlight, abrasion and simply through time, quite independently of how much the boat has been used.
