Archambault Bateaux; cover, cost and conditions
Archambault was a French sailboat yard in the Vienne department, between Tours and Poitiers. It built quick, sporty boats, many of them drawn by Michel Joubert and Bernard Nivelt. The best known is Joubert's Surprise, a fast and simple day boat that became a popular one design class in France. Production at Archambault ended in 2015, and BG Race took over the brand and the moulds and has kept the Surprise going. The later yachts are simply called A plus a number that is close to the length in feet.
Our model records hold 15 Archambault designs, twelve sailing yachts and three sailing boats. Build years start in 1965 with the Atlante, followed by the Bagheera from 1967, and six lines are recorded up to 2018. Five models make up the A range (A 27, A 31, A 35, A 40 and A 40 RC) and four belong to the Sprint family (95, 98 CR, 98 Open and 108), alongside the Surprise, Grand Surprise, Sprinto and M 34. Lengths run from the 6.0 metre Bagheera to the 11.98 metre A 40.
Plenty of Archambaults spend their weekends on a race course. The Surprise and the Sprinto are light enough to tow to regattas, while the A yachts stay in a marina berth and mix club racing with coastal cruising. Racing sails wear quickly, so owners often keep a separate cruising wardrobe. On the boats from the sixties and seventies, keel bolts and deck hardware deserve a careful look.

replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the A 27, A 35, A 40 RC by Archambault Bateaux and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Sprinto, Surprise, Bagheera by Archambault Bateaux series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
