Worth knowing
Barracuda; cover, cost and conditions
Barracuda is a Greek builder of inflatables and rigid inflatable boats. Its RIBs sit on a glass fibre hull topped by the inflatable tube, and the yard also uses that recipe for military and rescue craft. The Barracuda 700 Military is one of these boats and can be chartered on Crete. Model names are easy to decode: the number is roughly the length in centimetres, the letters behind it the build type. S and SIB mark soft inflatables and Rib the rigid hull versions, with P as a further small tender line, while the larger boats take a name instead, such as Military, Aphrodite or Satellite.
Our model records list 21 Barracuda designs, 11 inflatables and 10 RIBs. Sixteen start in 2004, four in 2015 and the 980C in 2016. Sixteen lines reach the latest build years, while five ended earlier, among them the 250 Rib, the 320 Rib and the Navigator 3 in 2012. The S line runs from the 340 S to the 420 S, 3.4 to 4.2 metres. Overall the range spans 2.3 metres (230 P and 230 SIB) to 8.99 metres (980C), with five RIBs between 6.98 and 8.99 metres.
The small P, SIB and S boats are tenders and beach boats that travel in a car boot, on deck or in davits; rinse them with fresh water and store them partly inflated, out of the sun. The RIBs from the 400 Rib upwards run their own outboard and live on a trailer or a swing mooring. Tubes on the bigger boats need a check of seams and valves before each season, and a boat kept ashore should be chocked so the hull carries the weight, not the tube.

Waters
Inland lakes, the coast and the Wadden Sea, mind the tide tables and the fairway.

As the Barracuda 230 SIB, Barracuda 250 SIB,
Barracuda 340 S by Barracuda and 3 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repairs are predictable.
Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.
As the Barracuda 250 Joujou RIB, Barracuda 400 Rib,
Barracuda 457 Rib by Barracuda and 7 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Barracuda 230 P, Barracuda 250 P,
Barracuda 250 Rib by Barracuda and 2 more series the market value and the replacement cost often
differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Barracuda 230 SIB, Barracuda 250 SIB, Barracuda 340 S by Barracuda and further series:
Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered,
UV ageing is wear.
For the Barracuda 250 Joujou RIB, Barracuda 400 Rib,
Barracuda 457 Rib by Barracuda and further series: On an inflatable the cause decides,
not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
