Worth knowing
Biam; cover, cost and conditions
Production lies in the past: ten model ranges are recorded, the earliest from 1979, the last one ending in 2003. Motor yachts such as the 800, 820, 870 and 1000 stand alongside smaller motor boats of the 570 to 700 ranges. For boats from these years, the agreed value is the decisive point in the contract.
A Biam 820 is part of our own portfolio. Full hull cover indemnifies up to the agreed value, with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), and in the Premium tariff without any age limit. Year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners do not exclude a boat with us; what matters is solely the documented value at the time the policy is taken out.
Limited hull cover covers fire, storm, lightning strike, theft of the entire boat and damage in winter storage; full hull cover adds collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts. If you are already insured elsewhere, you do not have to arrange the switch yourself: we cancel the previous policy free of charge.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is the value of a motor yacht from the 1980s established?
For Biam: Through an agreed value that is settled before the policy begins.
In the event of a claim we indemnify up to this amount,
with no deduction for depreciation (new for old) and, in the Premium tariff, without any age limit.
Is there an age limit for boats from the early production years?
No, not for Biam either: We insure regardless of year of construction,

For the Biam 900 by Biam series the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Biam 570, Biam 1000, Biam 660 by Biam and 6 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Biam 900, Biam 1000, Biam 800 by Biam and further series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Biam 570, Biam 660, Biam 690 by Biam and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
