Bootswerft Heinrich; cover, cost and conditions
Bootswerft Heinrich works in Kreuzlingen on the Swiss shore of Lake Constance. Its boats are built in wood composite, some hulls in cold moulded mahogany, thin layers of timber glued over a mould. Alongside new builds the yard takes on restoration, repairs, paint work and composite jobs. One feature the yard points out itself: for more than 15 years its sailing yachts have been fitted almost exclusively with electric drives. The boats stand out for combining classic timber with modern engineering, and the tenders also for their jet drive, which needs very little water under the hull.
Our model records list 14 designs: five sailing yachts, four sailing boats, four motorboats and one motor yacht. The oldest entries are the Tender 06 from 2001 and the Tender 08 from 2003. From 2007 come the Abraxas 9.1 and 10.5, the Sagitta 11 and the Tender 06 J and 06 O, followed in 2013 by the Tender 06 e. The largest boats are the Bootswerft Heinrich Yamilla 13m at 13.3 metres from 2015 and the Bootswerft Heinrich Yamila 15m at 15.5 metres from 2017. The Lacustre, Nanook S, Nanook XL and the 15qm SNS complete the list. Ten designs reach into the most recent build years, and the shortest boats measure six metres.
A wood composite boat on a freshwater lake asks for steady, unspectacular care. Varnish and paint protect the timber, and small knocks should be sealed before water can work its way into the laminate. Electric drives replace the routine of oil and filters with battery care: look at the age and capacity of the packs, the charger and the wiring. On a used Tender, check the jet intake and the steering. Because every boat was built to order, the original build documents and the list of fitted equipment are worth asking for.

Nanook S by Bootswerft Heinrich and further series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For the Bootswerft Heinrich Abraxas 10.5, Bootswerft Heinrich Sagitta 11,
Bootswerft Heinrich Yamila 15m by Bootswerft Heinrich and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Bootswerft Heinrich Tender 06 e, Bootswerft Heinrich Tender 06 J,
Bootswerft Heinrich Tender 06 O by Bootswerft Heinrich and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Bootswerft Heinrich Tender 08 by Bootswerft Heinrich series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
