The Ylva is a Danish yacht, and her story is tied to the Kjølhede name. Steen Kjølhede, who had built dinghies, designed her and launched the first Ylva in wood in 1973. That same year he won Sjælland Rundt, the race around Zealand, and he repeated the win three more times in a row, each time with a newly built Ylva. The design was developed further in 1976. She is easy to recognise: long, low and very narrow, only 2.29 metres wide on a hull of more than twelve metres. In Denmark the Ylva still races as a one-design class.
