Breehorn builds aluminium sailing yachts in Woudsend, Friesland. The signature is an aluminium hull under a deck of glass reinforced plastic, which combines the strength and stiffness of metal below with comfort and lower weight above. The yard makes almost everything in house and shapes each yacht with its owner. A Breehorn shows itself through the hull shape, a generous working deck and a sheltered cockpit made for long seasons, and the model number gives roughly the length in feet.
Our model records list twelve Breehorn designs: eight sailing yachts, two sailing boats, one motor yacht and one motorboat. The numbered series starts with the 9.4 metre Breehorn 31 and runs through the 37, 41, 44, 48 and 53 to the 16.67 metre Breehorn 55, the longest of them. The 37 appears from 1999, the 55 from 2022, and the boats from 31 to 53 run into the newest build years. The Breehorn Goodwin 44 at 13.25 metres is the motor yacht. Smaller boats are the Fox 22 and the Polyvalk Standard, both sailing boats around 6.5 metres, plus the Dutch Runabout 22. The oldest entry is the 11.85 metre Breehorn V.D. Torre, built from 1971 to 1977.
Aluminium shrugs off knocks, but damage shows as dents, and wherever other metals touch the hull corrosion needs watching. Anodes, isolated fittings and a clean shore power setup matter more than on a plastic boat. Breehorns are built for long passages, so many spend summers far from home and winters in a hall near the yard.
