Cantiere Gagliotta s.r.l.; cover, cost and conditions

Cantiere Gagliotta is a Naples yard that says it has been building boats for some seventy years. It began with racing boats for offshore competition and moved into cruising craft as the market changed. Today the name is tied above all to the Lobster 35, a boat in the manner of the New England lobster boats, with a near vertical stem, a low sheer and a sheltered helm, put together with Italian craftsmanship. Judel/Vrolijk and the engineer Fabrizio Marzocca worked on the lines. Alongside it the yard offers a sportier Fisherman line. With the Lobster 35 Gagliotta also tried its hand in North America and showed the boat at the Newport Boat Show in 2018.

Our model records list nine designs, seven motor yachts and two motorboats. The oldest is the Gagliardo at 11.4 metres, recorded from 1997 to 2008. From 2003 the Gagliotta 32, 37 and 52 appear, together with the Bajos, Caraibi and Camaro Even, the last three running until 2010. The Lobster 35 at 11 metres starts in 2006 and the Gagliotta 44 at 14 metres in 2010. The smallest boat is the Caraibi at 6.7 metres, the largest the Gagliotta 52 at 16.38 metres. Four lines reach into the most recent build years: the Gagliotta 37, 44 and 52 and the Lobster 35, while the Gagliotta 32 ends in 2019.

Boats from a yard with an offshore racing past are often run at speed, so a buyer should look at engine hours, shaft lines and the condition of the hull bottom forward. On a lobster style boat the varnished wood and the teak decks show quickly whether an owner has kept up maintenance. Many of these boats spend their lives on the Tyrrhenian coast, in hot sun and salt air, which is hard on canvas, upholstery and electronics.
