Cantieri di Baia, now known as Baia Yachts, works from the town of Baia near Naples, once a base of the Roman fleet. Its roots go back to 1961 and the Mericraft boat factory in Naples, which moved to Baia in 1968. The Capasso family, first a customer, took over the yard in the early 1970s and gave it its present name. Baia was early to build in composites such as carbon fibre and Kevlar and drew fast hulls suited to Arneson surface drives. Albert Ascenzi and Carlo Galeazzi worked on the Atlantica 80 and the One Hundred; the One Hundred hull Mirage, just over 31 metres long and launched in 2010, reaches around 50 knots.

Eleven carry the Baia name up front, among them the One 43, Flash 48, Aqua 54, Azzurra 63, Onda 63, Italia 70, Atlantica 78 and 80, the Sevolution 26 and the One Hundred. Seven belong to the older B series from the B 40 to the B 80 Force One Panther, and five have names of their own: Zero, Bimini, Exuma, Magnifica and Panther 80. Build years start in 1976 with the B 40 and run to 2020 with the Flash 48. Lengths range from 12.1 metres (B 40) to 31.1 metres (One Hundred): seven yachts stay under 15 metres, eight sit between 15 and 20, and eight go beyond 20. The numbers usually mean feet; the Sevolution 26 is the exception at 25.6 metres.
A Baia is built for speed, and that shapes how it is looked after. Surface drives run their propellers half out of the water and meet whatever floats there, so a check of blades and drive legs after a fast passage is good practice. Light composite hulls like a dry winter ashore, and since 14 of the 23 lines began before 2000, wiring, hoses and engine mounts on the older yachts call for regular attention. The larger models above 20 metres usually keep a marina berth and are often run with a skipper.
