Cantieri Navali Casa is a young Italian yard based in Gaeta, on the coast south of Rome. It was founded in the summer of 2003 and concentrates on open motor yachts with a fixed hardtop: fast express cruisers with plenty of deck space and comfortable cabins below. The Casa 54 HT, for example, was presented to the public at the Genoa boat show. The Casa 38 has been described as a tailor-made sport cruiser of medium size with a T-top, an open frame with a canopy over the helm. With the Casa 70 Sport Fly the yard took the earlier Casa 64 and Casa 68 projects further, adding a small upper helm, four double cabins and Arneson surface drives behind twin MAN engines.

On any Casa, check the hardtop mounts and the glazing for stress cracks, and the teak decks, if fitted, for wear and loose plugs. High-output diesels should come with full service histories. These boats spend much of their lives in Mediterranean sun and salt, so canvas, upholstery and stainless fittings age faster than the hull; a survey and a proper sea trial at speed will reveal the rest.
