Cantieri Navali Versil is an Italian builder of large motor yachts. The model names Superphantom and Planet belong to the range of Versilcraft in Viareggio, a yard founded in 1964 that grew under Vittorio Vismara. Viareggio, on the Tuscan coast, is one of the great names in Italian yacht building. Versilcraft started with wooden boats and moved early into glass fibre. The Superphantom became its signature: classic lines outside, generous comfort inside. The yachts are grouped into families with easy names to remember: Phantom, Mystere and Vanguard.

Our model records hold eight motor yachts built between 1971 and 2005. The Phantom family has the 16.95 metre Phantom-S (1971 to 1978), the 20.2 metre Superphantom (1971 to 1982) and the 22.5 metre Ultraphantom (1974 to 1981). There are three Mysteres: the 12.9 metre Mystere 12 (1975 to 1981), the 15 metre Mystere 15 ML (1973 to 1981) and the 14.5 metre Mystere 43 (1977 to 1983). The 16.3 metre Vanguard 16,30 runs from 1974 to 1981. Seven of the eight date from the seventies and early eighties; only the 28 metre Planet 105, listed from 1998 to 2005, is younger and also the longest.

Most of these yachts are more than forty years old, and many have been refitted along the way. They live on a marina berth and come out by crane for yard work and winter. With glass fibre yachts of this age, the deck core, the windows and the original wiring deserve a close look, and a documented refit history tells a buyer more than the year of build.
